My Terminators' Well-Earned Nickname

The Assault Terminator is widely believed to be one of the best Close Combat units in the game, and the Charges that they deliver are absolutely devastating to practically everything in the 40k model range.

Mine, 35% of the time, can be said to live up to the hype. Other times they charge out of their Faildozer(read: Land Raider) and get their Tactical Dreadnought Armored-Asses handed to them by 14 Shoota Boyz. Or, for example, lose three of their battle brothers to 5 long range Pulse Rifle shots. /facepalm Basically, my hammer unit failed me at every opportunity, therefore losing me some games. Which I suppose is the best argument against using a "Death Star" reliant army. Oh well. I have some thinking to do for next year!

The GT that I attended was a lot of fun and it was great to meet some more gamers in the area. The tables could have used some more terrain(what else is new?) but other than that was well-run and everyone seemed to be there to play some competitive games while behaving in a sporting manner. I was unfortunately unable to attend the second day due to the fact that upon returning home on Saturday night my wife and I were treated to giving my children and ourselves a good Lice-icidal Shampooing and washing all of our bedding and vacuuming all of our furniture for the better part of the night and the wee hours of the following morning. No one in the house woke up on Sunday morning until well after the second round had started. Ahh, back to school season is such a treat, n'cest pas?

  1. I am sorry to hear that man! Both the fact that you missed the second day of the tournament and the fact that you got the Grade School Lice Bonus Surprise!

As for the Terminators; if you know you will more than likely lose them to something silly. Then be even more aggressive with them. Make them the central focus of your assault. That way, while they are dying the rest of your army is free to do what they need to do - to hand you the victory.

  2. Yeah, that's true. I like to hold them back for one devastating final assault and a lot of the times it works for me.

It would have worked in my second game, giving me at least a draw, but the dice gods were not kind. I definitely see what you're saying though. Had I been more aggressive I perhaps could have controlled the game a bit more.
