My Terminators' Well-Earned Nickname

The Assault Terminator is widely believed to be one of the best Close Combat units in the game, and the Charges that they deliver are absolutely devastating to practically everything in the 40k model range.

Mine, 35% of the time, can be said to live up to the hype. Other times they charge out of their Faildozer(read: Land Raider) and get their Tactical Dreadnought Armored-Asses handed to them by 14 Shoota Boyz. Or, for example, lose three of their battle brothers to 5 long range Pulse Rifle shots. /facepalm Basically, my hammer unit failed me at every opportunity, therefore losing me some games. Which I suppose is the best argument against using a "Death Star" reliant army. Oh well. I have some thinking to do for next year!

The GT that I attended was a lot of fun and it was great to meet some more gamers in the area. The tables could have used some more terrain(what else is new?) but other than that was well-run and everyone seemed to be there to play some competitive games while behaving in a sporting manner. I was unfortunately unable to attend the second day due to the fact that upon returning home on Saturday night my wife and I were treated to giving my children and ourselves a good Lice-icidal Shampooing and washing all of our bedding and vacuuming all of our furniture for the better part of the night and the wee hours of the following morning. No one in the house woke up on Sunday morning until well after the second round had started. Ahh, back to school season is such a treat, n'cest pas?

My latest Battle Report.

I'm going to link to the one on dakka http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/314948.page

and also try this...

Which doesn't work. Growing pains, bear with me.

The Hands of Vengeance showing off the fall line of shoulder pads.

My pretty Rhino

Heh. I need to be more attentive to this...

I went up to Adventurer's Guild in Riverside and it's a very cool store. I met 3 guys named Jason, Jason... and Jason(?) and had a very good game. I lost with seven kill points to Jason's eight, and I realized that not only do I need to step up my game from a tactical standpoint but also in regard to painting.

It gave me a good incentive to haul my paints out and give my Marines a much needed highlighting and I'm pretty pleased with the result. We'll see what the judges at the SoCal Smackdown think.

Deployment

End of 5

I knew things were going well when I had put a serious hurt on all three Hammerheads.  Good game, Ian!

End of 4

I am absolutely not getting out of that Rhino. Not now, not ever.

End of 3

He hit me back, vaporized my Vindicator. Still 2-0.

End of turn 2

That stunned Hammerhead vehemently disagreed with being assaulted with a seismic hammer.

End of turn 1

Here comes the cavalry, as statistically inaccurate as they are with their meltas.

End of top of 1

That's a lot of Xenos tanks

My first battle will hopefully be this evening!

I'm headed down to Pair a Dice games in a little while to try to find a pick up game. It'll be good to shake the dust off the models, and hopefully get a little bit of 2000 point practice in before the SoCal Smackdown. From what I can tell on Dakka, this area seems to be full of competitive gamers so I'm looking forward to the challenge.

I have to say that it's nice to live in a place where there's events taking place per month, and that I can attend a GT without getting on a plane!

My main conundrum is whether or not to bring my Necrons to the tournaments... Is it a lack of confidence that holds me back? I feel like I'm good with the army, but is it true what they say? Is the Necron Codex truly a total suckfest in Fifth Edition? I win more than I lose with them even now, but I haven't dared take them to a Tournament. The Assault Terminators and Psychic Hood in my Space Marine have maybe become a bit of a crutch. Though, since I named this blog "My Penitent Crusade" maybe I ought to stick with the Hands of Vengeance.

The reason for the blog's title is that my friend Droofus and I started two armies at about the same time, his being Waagh! Grubbynutz and mine being the Hands of Vengeance Space Marine Chapter. We learned our armies, and each others', inside and out over countless games and eventually had a pretty extensive fluff history for our respective armies. Anyway, the last game we played was a 4,000 point Apocalypse blowout that resulted in the Greenskins conquering my chapter planet, thereby rendering my Astartes fleet-based. So here we are...
